Bring Your Painting & Troubleshoot with Laura Miller
Class | Available
Calling all painters! Need help setting aside time every week for painting? Are you wishing that you could get on-the-spot feedback and opinions about your work or your methods? Are you feeling stuck with a piece and can't decide how to proceed? Do you want to try painting with a supportive small group? This is the course for you!
Join artist, Laura Miller, for hands-on painting instruction workshops. Participants will bring their own work(s)-in-progress and receive individual guidance and assistance from Laura as they paint. This gives participants the freedom to paint what they like but with someone who will troubleshoot with them. Basic concepts of composition, color, color mixing, value, and perspective can be practiced and reviewed. Students should bring their own supplies (paints, brushes, palettes, and their work), and the instructor will have additional supplies available if needed. The Oliver Art Center will provide table top easels, space, and basic supplies such as water cups, paper towels, sketching pencils, scrap papers, etc. Workshops will be 3 hours long once a week for 3 weeks. Take advantage of this great opportunity to paint with a group and share and receive critical feedback and instruction!
Laura Miller
I am a self-taught artist with a flair for color. I am drawn to color and the charm of the mundane moments in life. Rhythms of everyday life or silent moments in nature have an inexplicable beauty. Growing up in the Upper Peninsula, I am a lover of farms, fields, woods and lakes. I paint to feed my soul.
I am a member of Oliver Art Center and Northport Art Association. I have been represented in my work by OAC, NAA, and Glen Arbor Arts Center. I am honored by the awards that I have won, including: winning the Tree City USA poster contest for Frankfort in 2020, first place in 2D Art at OAC in the Juried Exhibition 2022, first place Plein Air 2024 at OAC, and an Honorable Mention in the Gene Rantz Plein Air Paint Out in 2026. They have all been a delight and humbling experiences. I continue to broaden my skills with any instruction given and with online class/workshops.
