Learn the basics of making functional pots on the wheel!  In this fun and informative 4-week pottery course, students will learn to create basic forms such as bowls, and cups on the wheel and explore decoration and glazing.  We'll discuss what makes a pot functional, as well as dos and don'ts of working with clay.  Students will take home several finished pieces and a range of skills to continue their pottery study.

You'll enjoy our professional, comfortable Ceramics Studio with wheel classes limited to just 6 participants.  Our students enjoy hands-on experience shared with like-minded creatives in a friendly and relaxed environment, including some evening classes during which you can admire stunning sunset views of Lake Michigan while you work!  The Oliver Art Center Ceramics Studio is the place to learn and have fun year-round!

What's included?

  • 15 hours of instruction with ceramic artist and studio manager, Amelia Bell
  • 2 optional student lab times per week (for practice time, glazing, and trimming)
  • up to 12 lbs. of clay (more available for purchase should you use all of your allotted clay)
  • use of studio tools, equipment, and glazes

Class Policies:
This class will run with a minimum of 3 registrants and a maximum of 6.  If a class day is canceled for any reason, a make-up day will be scheduled immediately after the end of the course.  Refunds are only applicable if registered students drop the class more than one week prior to the first class session.  Class periods missed by students for personal reasons will not be refunded, but may discuss with the instructor possible attendance for one day with another class/group during the same 4-week period (if there are seats available).  Students are encouraged to consider signing up for consecutive sessions in order to build skills.  If a student registers for subsequent sessions, projects may be continued through the next class. Otherwise, all projects and work must be completed during the four weeks of their classes and removed within 30 days after the last day of class.  Work left longer than 30 days will be discarded.
