Building a Story: Layered Whimsy in Acrylic Painting with Katie Ward

Class | Available

In this two-day studio workshop, students will create a layered, story-driven animal painting on a 12x12 or 12x16 canvas. Working in acrylic, we will explore composition, light direction, patterned backgrounds, and the development of a cohesive narrative setting.

Day one focuses on composition, drawing, color structure, and light direction.

Day two emphasizes layering, pattern integration, and refining environmental storytelling elements.  Students will make meaningful progress on a layered painting and develop the skills to confidently bring their work to completion.  Personal reference images are welcome. A smartphone or tablet is encouraged for digital planning tools. Works in progress may be continued in future sessions.

All materials provided.

Confident beginners and intermediate painters welcome.
