Drypoint Printmaking with Hal Papcun

This course explores drypoint intaglio printmaking through a comprehensive, process-driven approach. Students learn how to prepare metal plates by beveling edges, develop detailed imagery, heat plates, apply and wipe ink correctly, and operate a press with appropriate pressure. A strong emphasis is placed on consistency and repeatability of results, reinforcing professional printmaking standards.

Hal Papcun
Hal Papcun is a multidisciplinary artist, illustrator, and educator based in Traverse City, Michigan. Known for his intricately detailed prints and illustrations… and the signature hidden snails tucked throughout his work! Hal earned a BFA in Fine Arts Illustration from Northern Michigan University and has been a practicing educator and professional illustrator since 2016. Hal teaches printmaking at Northwestern Michigan College and regularly leads classes and workshops in the region.
