Drawing on Nature: Drawing Workshop with Nik Burkhart
Class | Available
This workshop will use drawing as a lens to explore the natural world. Using the landscape as a muse, we will make a series of graphite and charcoal drawings to learn important aspects of line, value and composition. Students will practice by using their own photographs of favorite scenes and translate them into finished drawings. This hands-on experience will offer opportunities to experiment with a range of drawing techniques and increase competency with basic drawing materials.
All supplies included.
Intermediate level, age 16+.
Nik Burkhart
Nik Burkhart grew up on a farm in Brutus, Michigan, and makes artwork that examines how we relate to our environment through our land use and depictions of nature. Many of his artworks incorporate wood to further evoke a connection to the natural world, often integrating the wood grain as a compositional element. After earning a degree in Studio Art from Hope College and working in the art field in Chicago, Nik returned to Northern Michigan and is currently teaching painting classes at Northwestern Michigan College.
