Put a Handle On It: Ceramics Workshop with Amelia Bell

Class | Available

This deep dive will give you the confidence to never be scared of putting a handle on a pot again! In this hands-on workshop, we will explore different types of pulled and hand-built handles and discuss what makes a handle functional for various pieces. Bring your own wheel-thrown or hand-built mugs, or select a provided cylinder to use. Through guided, step-by-step instruction, we will create our own handles and practice attachment techniques. Projects will be bisque-fired when dry, and students enrolled in a current Ceramics class may glaze during their weekly lab time.  Those who are not currently enrolled in a class may select a glaze color from our collection, and the instructor will take care of the glazing for you.  Finished pieces can be picked up the following week. You will go home with a series of handles to create your own reference library!

Amelia Bell

A.C. Bell is a North Carolina potter, originally from Chicago, IL. She studied biology in college and spent time working in a veterinary clinic and pursuing a master’s degree in sustainable urban development before discovering pottery in an evening class at a local Chicago neighborhood art center. In 2021, after going as far as she could taking classes at art centers and craft schools, she moved to North Carolina for the Professional Craft Program at Haywood Community College.

A.C. went on to work as an Assistant and Tech in a variety of studios in Tennessee and North Carolina including Odyssey Clayworks in Asheville. A.C. also served for several years as a teaching artist at Lillstreet Art Center in Chicago, IL.
