Class Description: 4-week Drawing Foundations with Lori Barry

Class | Available

This is a 4-week class that will provide an overview of the foundational skills of drawing.  Suitable for beginners or intermediate/advanced artists who want a refresher on the fundamentals, everyone will benefit from instructor Lori Barry's expertise! Class meets Tuesdays from 4:30 pm - 6:00 pm starting November 11th. (There is no class the week of thanksgiving.)

Week 1:  Introduction to Line and Form.  Students will experiment with mark-making and contour drawing while working with basic shapes and forms.  Basic drawing tools and materials will be discussed as well.

Week 2:  Shading and Texture:  students will experiment with different methods for creating light and shadow (such as stippling, scumbling, hatching/cross-hatching, soft blending).

Week 3:  Perspective:  students will learn about different methods for suggesting depth, including linear and atmospheric perspective.

Week 4:  Scale and Proportion:  students will study and try different methods for measuring, scaling, and rendering drawings with proper proportions.  This session is helpful for any student planning to sign up for our future figure drawing workshops.

All supplies required for the class will be included.  However, all students are encouraged to bring a sketchbook and pencils for note taking and small studies.
