Announcing the exciting new event:  Frankfort Sketch Walk

Sponsored by The Oliver Art Center in conjunction with the Urban Sketchers of Traverse City

Please bring your own sketchbook, pencils, paints, or desired media, and join fellow artists for a fun day of sketching around the Frankfort environs.  We will meet at Oliver Art Center for orientation and to get maps, and then everyone will spread out around the four hub locations to sketch.  While we encourage artists to visit as many as possible, it is not required to visit all.  In the afternoon, we will gather again at the art center to share our creations and enjoy some refreshments!

What is an Urban Sketch?

An urban sketch is a drawing created on location, indoors or out, capturing what the sketcher sees from direct observation. Urban sketchers use any kind of media to tell the story of their surroundings, the places they live, and where they travel. 

Urban sketching is a record of time and space, an event, something happening at a given moment, somewhere in our world. For some that can be a quick sketch of a scene, with a short caption of what’s going on, and for others it’s a piece that can take a long period of time to complete.

It is an urban sketch as long as a sketcher has captured the essence of the moment and place on location.

Urban sketching doesn’t have to take place in a city. It can be done in any environment, indoors or outdoors, in urban, rural, or natural areas. 

?When:   10:30am-4:00pm, Sunday August 24

Locations:  Coastguard Station (from OAC), Marina, Main St (many possible smaller sites) and the Victorian neighborhood.

Schedule:

10:30am - Check in at Oliver Art Center. Meet your fellow sketchers. Pick up schedule and map.

11:00am - Set out  to sketch at four locations in Frankfort. Spend about an hour at each location. (We encourage sketchers to go to all four locations but we understand if some don’t sketch all four.)

3 - 4 pm - "Throwdown" at Oliver Art Center to view sketches, take photos and enjoy some refreshments.
