Class Description: Beach stone Pendant or Ring: Silver Bezel Jewelry with Janet Ryan

Create a sterling silver pendant or ring with a Lake Michigan beach stone. Students will learn the basic skills in design, bezel making, soldering, and stone setting to create their own one-of-a-kind piece of jewelry. No experience necessary. Students will complete their piece in class and take it home.
All levels - ages 16 +
Supplies fee listed for minimum silver ($15) to be paid at registration. This is sufficient for a small bezel setting.
Larger settings/more silver will be available for purchase on the day of class directly from the instructor (additional $5-$15) depending on how much silver students choose), via cash, check, or Venmo (no credit cards) if students decide to try a project that requires more materials.
Janet Ryan
Janet grew up in Columbus Ohio spending summers in Leelanau at her grandparents cottage on Lake Leelanau. She grew up with art projects and summer rock collecting. She attended Lake Forest College, where she took her first silver jewelry construction workshop taught by students in a dorm basement. After graduating with a major in Mathematics and Physics she began a 38 year career in Information Technology. In 2004, while living in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, she began re-exploring her interest in Jewelry by creating space for a jewelers bench in her basement and investing in books and tools. She also started taking classes in Metal Techniques at the Milwaukee Area Technical School and with visiting artists. In 2016 she retired, and moved to Cedar near Sugar Loaf Mountain in August 2017. She now continues to learn new techniques by taking classes while creating and selling jewelry at local art shows and she teaches jewelry classes.
