Puppetry Camp Group 2 (11-14 years old)
Camp | Available
Puppetry is an art that requires many disciplines - sculpture to make faces, fiber arts to make hair and clothes, and theater to tell
stories, just for a start! In this three-session workshop participants will work in teams to choose a story, write a script, and build all the puppets and sets needed to put on a show. The final session will bring together all teams to practice performing in front of an audience. All participants must be capable of following step by step instructions, understanding the basic story arc (beginning, middle, end) and using scissors and hot glue without adult assistance.
There will be two afternoon sessions each day:
Group 1 from 1:00 - 2:00 pm for 8-10 year-olds
Group 2 from 2:30 - 3:30 pm for 11-14 year-olds
Our grand performance will be Sunday afternoon from 2-3:00 pm. Refreshments will be provided. The performance will be free to the public with a goodwill donation.
Adults are welcome (and encouraged!) to participate with their children. You can form your own “team” in advance or meet new friends when you arrive.
Alexandra Herryman
Alexandra Herryman has a long history of design, construction, and management for live theater, which she honed in New York and Chicago before settling down in northern Michigan. In 2009 she ran away from grad school to join the puppeteers in Boston, becoming the stage manager for a monthly puppet slam. This introduced her to the multitude of puppet styles and techniques that exist, an interest she further studied at regional and national puppet festivals. Many of her puppets are still out in the world performing in theatrical productions.
