S26-44 "Oedipus Rex"

Class | Registration opens 3/2/2026 9:00 AM EST

"Oedipus Rex", written by the Greek playwright Sophocles in 429 BC, is generally considered one of the world’s greatest plays. It combines the elements of a murder mystery, political thriller, and psychological whodunit. Oedipus’s transgressions of patricide and incest are secondary to the drama of a man undone by hubris—by his own rage, ego, and intelligence. Jim Romano will present an analysis of the play, with observations on theater, tragedy, Freud, and what the play teaches us about character and responsibility.
