S26-29 Irish Drama: A Continuation
Zoom | Registration opens 3/2/2026 9:00 AM EST
This Zoom course will be recorded. This course builds on the materials and concepts of “The Origins of Modern Irish Drama,” but taking this class does not require having taken “Origins.” Using three iconic Irish plays from the middle to late twentieth century, we will experience the growth and variety of Irish drama from O’Casey’s contemporaneous 1924 tragedy, “Juno and the Paycock,” to the historical vision of an Ireland past, Brian Friel’s “Translations” (1981), to Conor McPherson’s exploration of a more modern Ireland, “The Weir” (1999). Through examining these plays, we will attempt to appreciate the scope and depth of twentieth century Irish drama
