SILVER I:  BENCH BASICS Weekend Class Saturday 9/13/25

INSTRUCTOR:  KIM ST. JEAN

 

In this class you will learn the basics of becoming a silversmith. First and foremost is safety and correct equipment use. You will learn how to use a jeweler’s saw, manipulate a torch, maintain torch control, develop an understanding of solder and what makes it work effectively. There will be a project that the whole class will make together. It will include the basic techniques used to build a foundation in silver fabrication. Once this project is completed, you will be able to design and execute a design of your own. This class is for the student that would like to become a jewelry artist and the student that may already have some experience but would like to take a refresher course of the basics to strengthen their core silversmithing skills.

 

Class Fee:  There is a $95.00 class fee payable to the instructor. All sterling silver used during class will be provided by the instructor at fair market value at the time of the class.

Prerequisite:  No prerequisite for this course

Kim St. Jean

Kim St. Jean is an award-winning instructor, author, and jewelry designer. Following 10 years as a public school teacher, she has been teaching jewelry classes for over 20 years. Kim has been published in numerous magazines and books. She has appeared on several beading/craft television programs including Jewelry TV and Beads Baubles & Jewels. Kim also has written 3 books and has over 30 instructional DVD’s and on-line courses available. Predominantly at www.wirejewelry.com  Kim’s home base is in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, where she and her husband, Norm, own Studio St. Jean. Kim, Norm, and their son Chase spend much of the year traveling across the country teaching classes at bead shows, jewelry schools, guilds, clubs, studios, and stores.
