SILVER 1.5
INSTRUCTOR: BARBARA FIELDS

This class will be an extension of my Silver 1 class. We will focus on Pick Soldering, and Design. Charges for silver and stones will be dependent upon the student’s choice of materials. We will be incorporating different methods of setting cabochons, including tab settings and reversible settings, which will require piercing and saw work. Layout and design will be a large part of this class. We will also be working with faceted stones to make prong and bezel settings.

All methods used will be suitable for earrings, pendants and other items. Students can bring their own stones to work with or choose from my supply of cabachons and faceted stones.

Good motor skills and vision are required since we will be working with small objects and hard to see processes. Opti Visors or other vision aids can be used if desired. We will complete other projects as time permits.

Class Fee: $125.

Est Materials Fee: $100-300+(Charges for silver and stones will be dependent upon the student’s choice of materials. In addition to class fee)

Prerequisite: 2 Silver I Classes & Experienced Soldering Skills

Barbara Fields

I began my adventure in Silversmithing in 2005, in Nashville, TN. Thanks to Mid-Tennessee Gem & Mineral Society. They offer classes in stone cutting, cabochons, and Silver Smithing. I started with a Lapidary Class and quickly moved into the Silver Jewelry Class. After I advanced in skills, and the demand had increased, I was asked to be an instructor. I have taken Silver Fabrication with several instructors at William Holland through the years, and have dabbled in several other aspects in the Jewelry Arts, as well as other artistic pursuits. My classes are structured for the beginning student, and for building their skills to pursue their endeavors after the class has ended. I prefer keeping everyone on the same projects, so we can learn from each other’s experience, until they are confident enough to work independently on their own projects. Students typically make five or more finished pieces and can expect to spend $150 to $300 or more, depending on materials used in class or purchased to take home to continue their journey into the world of silversmithing.
