A friend invited me to the Augusta/Aiken Gem and Mineral Show one year because we discovered we had similar interest in rocks and minerals. We attended and I was hooked with all the beautiful things I saw and possibilities of where I could go with them. I joined the Augusta Gem and Mineral Society and the Aiken Gem, Mineral and Fossil Society at that show. I have really enjoyed attending the meetings and learning more about rocks and mineral from the programs presented and from the club’s members.
The same friend who invited me to the Gem and Mineral show, talked about a place where you could go and learn about different the types of lapidary arts. She convinced me to attend with her and take a class. While at the school, I noticed that in the display classes were gem trees that looked like specific trees. Now, I am a biology major with an emphasis in botany and a high school biology teacher for 35 years. I was blown away by the realistic look of these trees which was very different that gem trees I had previously seen. I signed up for the next Gem Trees I class available. I took that class and after many additional Gem Trees classes, I decided it was time to share what I’ve learned. Although still enjoy taking additional classes, Gem Trees is still my focus.
