PINE NEEDLE BASKETS
INSTRUCTOR: CHAR CIAMICHELLA
This will be a great week of learning to play outside of the box!! Depending upon students coiling experience, class begins with mainly learning stitches. A basic beginner basket is started by coiling around an irregular shaped stone cabochon. The slant/single stitch is used to begin. Students will learn shaping, adding and changing colors of threads.
With the completion of the “beginner” basket, students will begin a second piece. Many different stitches will be taught throughout the week. Wrapping rows, a checkerboard pattern, swirly patterns are just a few examples of coiling patterns. Stitches can include a wheat stitch, diamond stitch, wrapping rows, as well as the elusive ti-stitch. We will “play” with colors using our stone, threads, beads, and our patterns to make a great work of art.
With classes being a week long, Char can teach the complete beginner as well as experienced coilers!
