SILVER I

INSTRUCTOR: DEB BAW

 

This class is for the beginner Silversmith. You will learn the art of making jewelry using a torch, flex shaft as well as a variety of hand tools. We will cover shop safety as well as safety when using jewelry tools for sawing, piercing, filing, hammering, texturing. You will learn how to solder 3 ways as well as learn how to fit a bezel to your stone. After you have created your pieces you will learn the finesse of finishing by hand and/or with the use of the Foredom flex-shaft and tumblers.

 

Lab fees include solder, flux, and sawblades. Finishing wheels and well as printed materials will also be provided for each project. You will also receive the silver and stone for the first project. Other project kits as well as metal will be available and cost will be determined by metal current market prices.

 

The school supplies a box of tools at each desk for your use while taking this class. If you have your own tools I encourage you to bring them along with safety glasses and or an Opti-visor. Feel free to bring additional cabachons.  Closed toe shoes as well as an apron are required.
