WIRE I
INSTRUCTOR: VICKIE HODGES
This is a traditional wire class for beginners where students will learn the very basics in preparation for Wire II. Students will benefit from detailed information covering theory and design, along with "monkey-see, monkey-do" techniques. Approximately ten projects are planned and each one is unique and varies in skill and technique. Students will begin with simple patterns and walk their way up to more advanced techniques. Beginner Wire Wrappers will learn everything they need to know to be prepared for a Wire II Class. Potential projects include: 2 different bracelets, calibrated cabochons, 1 pair of all wire earrings, 1 pair of calibrated cabochon earrings, 1 uncalibrated cabochon, 1 uncalibrated pair of cabochon earrings, and a simple ring. Students will learn how to clean jewelry appropriately, receive advice on purchasing cabochons, learn how to price and sell finished products and receive tips on purchasing the necessary tools. Materials used in class including wire, stones, beads, and all tools used will be provided by the instructor. Students should bring an OptiVISOR if they have one (OptiVISORS can be rented at the school for $8.00/week), a sweater, an open mind and a willingness to learn. Correspondence 4-6 weeks prior to class will be sent for review. Join us to learn how to wrap wire around stones and create gorgeous jewelry! The class fee includes: sharpie marker, pen & paper, class handouts, tape, and use of all tools.
