LAMPWORKING II: A GARDEN OF GLASS
INSTRUCTOR: FRANK SCOTT
This course will explore the range of lampworked floral beads. We will construct petal and leaf cane to make an applied flower bead. Next, we will construct a Japanese style murrini floral cane and learn how to cut and prepare each murrini for insertion onto the bead face. And, we will make my signature “Botanical Geode” bead. This bead was a finalist in the International Bead Competition held in Venice, Italy and will be a part of the permanent collection at the Venice Glass Museum. We will make an applied flower bead and encase it in clear glass, and then wrap it in ivory, and frit. After annealing the “egg”, we will cold work the bead to open up the face and reveal the flower hidden inside.
Throughout the class we will be discussing methods that will aid students with better control of form and heat management. I hope to have some class time to address student questions regarding problem areas they have encountered.
Class Fee: $175 (includes custom flameworking tool and materials for all class projects)
Est. Materials Fee: $50-$100 (for students who complete class projects)
