METAL CLAY: ART CLAY: LEVEL 1 CERTIFICATION

INSTRUCTOR:  PAT LILLIE

Art Clay is a non-toxic product composed of silver powder, a cellulose binder and water. When fired, the binder burns off, the piece shrinks 8-9% and it becomes 99.9% fine silver. Certification for the basic level will teach you seven projects that encompass all the basic techniques using the various art clay products, including paste, clay, syringe and overlay paste. You will learn everything from rolling, texturing, combining, repairing, pre-finishing and finishing while being able to modify your pieces to express your individuality. At the successful completion of all projects, you will have a Level I Certification in Art Clay Silver.  You will be eligible for a 30% discount on all art clay silver products and substantial discounts on everything else Art Clay World USA offers. *Prior metal clay experience is helpful and highly recommended. Short nails and a magnifier are the only things you will need for class. The class fee includes clay, tutorials, use of instructor tools and all consumable materials. This course typically has a value of $650.00 for 3 days. As a student at WH school, you are being offered a substantial discount for a full week of class.

I have been interested in 2D and 3D art forms since I was a child. I received my BA of fine arts in Painting and in Drawing from the University of South Alabama, and a additional degree in Graphic Design from the Art Institute in Fort Lauderdale, FL.

I worked for a creative design firm in Marietta, GA until 2007. In 2000, I was introduced to lapidary arts and jewelry metalsmithing. Over the years, I have been able to take numerous classes on metalsmithing, casting and stone cutting. I love being able to design, cut my own stone and create jewelry pieces from start to finish. In 2002, I was introduced to metal clay and fell in love with its forming abilities and compatibility with metalsmithing. I received a Senior Certification in Precious Metal Clay and later an Art Clay Senior Certification. I have been loved teaching metal clay art classes since then, in classroom setting, such as, the Spruill Center for the Arts in Atlanta, GA, in my personal studio in Marietta and at William Holland School of Lapidary. I really enjoy learning new ideas and techniques and being able to pass these concepts and skills on to others who are also interested in the arts.
