SILVER I: SOLDERING INTENSIVE

INSTRUCTOR: KIM ST. JEAN

 

In this class you will learn how to utilize all the soldering techniques needed to raise your projects to the next level. You will discover the advantages of using sheet, wire and yes... paste solder. These soldering forms will be utilized using the chip, stick, pick and placement techniques. Once you have discovered the advantages to all the solder forms available to you, you will be able to create more intricate and complex designs. You will learn when and how to utilize “furniture” to create faster soldering flow processes on larger or heavier projects. We will discuss and utilize various fluxes, both store bought and homemade. You will leave class with a better understanding of why and how we do the things we do to create beautiful, professionally created jewelry. The instructor will provide all silver and stones used in this class at fair market value as well as all solder, consumables, and instructions. No project is included in the kit fee due to the ever-fluctuating price of silver. Basic tools are provided, feel free to bring your personal tools. Long hair must be tied up or held back. Closed toe shoes are required for safety. Optivisors may be needed for detailed work.

Kim St. Jean

Kim St. Jean is an award-winning instructor, author, and jewelry designer. Following 10 years as a public school teacher, she has been teaching jewelry classes for over 20 years. Kim has been published in numerous magazines and books. She has appeared on several beading/craft television programs including Jewelry TV and Beads Baubles & Jewels. Kim also has written 3 books and has over 30 instructional DVD’s and on-line courses available. Predominantly at www.wirejewelry.com  Kim’s home base is in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, where she and her husband, Norm, own Studio St. Jean. Kim, Norm, and their son Chase spend much of the year traveling across the country teaching classes at bead shows, jewelry schools, guilds, clubs, studios, and stores.
