SILVER II: STRUCTURAL EARRINGS AND PENDANT – MIX IT UP WITH COMBINATIONS, COLOR AND MOVEMENT

INSTRUCTOR: BEVERLY FOX

In this class you can let your imagination go wild! We will be making a pair of earrings and a pendant and more if there is time. Students can bring their own stones and silver, but these will also be available for sale. Note: the stones I use are really beautiful pairs and singles that are hand picked for weight, color, pattern and uniqueness. Often times my stones have a natural face, meaning the surface is natural crystal or drusy. Most are on the expensive side, but worth it. We will be using fine silver sheet and sterling silver wires. Silver materials will be available for sale. Pronging: If you have never pronged a cabochon, you will learn. This is one way to show off a polished stone back. Also, you can connect two or more pronged pieces together to create your design. Want to use an unusual shaped stone with a curved back? Prongs are the answer. Bezeling: Combining prongs with regular bezels connect easily. Hinges: Learn to create swing with a hinge. Elements: Learn to think out of the box; make and use unusual elements. These will be for sale, but bring your own if you like. Small stones, carved stones, silver solderables and alike work well. You can make solderables by cutting them out of material as well. Decorate prongs with elements or sides of bezels to complete the story. Color: Pop your design with color. This is a fast paced class where you will learn a lot of new information and techniques. We will be using the “Smith Little Torch and Smith acetylene/Air torch. I teach “best techniques” using these torches, so if you have never used the little torch, buckle up - you are going to love it!

Class Fee: $150.

Materials Fee: $100. Hand outs, including step by step instructions. Use of a special tool kit with all the hand tools I use daily.

Prerequisite: Proficient at bezel setting cabochons and soldering experience

I was told many years ago, “If you do what you love, you will never have a boring day.” Well, I love teaching people and making fabricated jewelry, it’s really fun – and it has become a large part of my life! After relocating to Florida from Southern Maine with my husband, Bruce, I began teaching at the Cape Coral Art Center in Cape Coral, Florida. It’s been over 20 years now and it never gets old. I’m currently teaching three classes a week from beginners to advanced students. Occasionally, I teach workshops on unique and specialized techniques. I also teach up to three students at a time in my home studio. In my classes, you will learn to use the small but powerful Smith Little Torch without which I could not do what I do, I’m certain you will learn to love it as well. A few weeks a year, I leave Florida and travel to Georga to teach at William Holland Lapidary School— an experience like none other! I love meeting up with new and repeat students to share an entire week of working together on beautiful creations. It’s very satisfying to watch students grow into their own potential while enjoying the journey. This is such a special place to teach; the staff is great; students are excited and we all have so much to share! When I’m not working or teaching, I am creating! I LOVE exploring new, exciting designs that create interest, color and movement. My inspiration usually starts with rare stones boasting great color combinations and unique textures. I believe in drawing a preliminary sketch and working from there, which saves time determining my next step. As one works through building a jewelry piece, obstacles sometimes require changes. I embrace and enjoy those changes, because the result can be a fresh, new look that I often like better. In September 2023, we at Sleeping Fox, Inc. launched our new selling website, sleepingfoxjewelrymarket.com. I’m also President and part owner of the colorful Harbour View Gallery in Cape Coral, Florida, where we showcase and sell the work of 30 local artists (we call friends). Yes, I’m doing what I love! And I’d love to do it with you.

See you in school!
