I was told many years ago, “If you do what you love, you will never have a boring day.” Well, I love teaching people and making fabricated jewelry, it’s really fun – and it has become a large part of my life! After relocating to Florida from Southern Maine with my husband, Bruce, I began teaching at the Cape Coral Art Center in Cape Coral, Florida. It’s been over 20 years now and it never gets old. I’m currently teaching three classes a week from beginners to advanced students. Occasionally, I teach workshops on unique and specialized techniques. I also teach up to three students at a time in my home studio. In my classes, you will learn to use the small but powerful Smith Little Torch without which I could not do what I do, I’m certain you will learn to love it as well. A few weeks a year, I leave Florida and travel to Georga to teach at William Holland Lapidary School— an experience like none other! I love meeting up with new and repeat students to share an entire week of working together on beautiful creations. It’s very satisfying to watch students grow into their own potential while enjoying the journey. This is such a special place to teach; the staff is great; students are excited and we all have so much to share! When I’m not working or teaching, I am creating! I LOVE exploring new, exciting designs that create interest, color and movement. My inspiration usually starts with rare stones boasting great color combinations and unique textures. I believe in drawing a preliminary sketch and working from there, which saves time determining my next step. As one works through building a jewelry piece, obstacles sometimes require changes. I embrace and enjoy those changes, because the result can be a fresh, new look that I often like better. In September 2023, we at Sleeping Fox, Inc. launched our new selling website, sleepingfoxjewelrymarket.com. I’m also President and part owner of the colorful Harbour View Gallery in Cape Coral, Florida, where we showcase and sell the work of 30 local artists (we call friends). Yes, I’m doing what I love! And I’d love to do it with you.
See you in school!
