SOFT SOLDERED JEWELRY
INSTRUCTOR: BECKY PATELLIS
The art of translating Tiffany style-stained glass soldering into jewelry. We will be using a soldering iron instead of a torch to get similar looks. Sometimes it is called “low-tech” soldering. This technique is especially good for those who do not have an appropriate place for torch work, or just don’t like working with fire. Students will use copper foil around cabochons, beads, or just make wire structures to form their individual designs. Instructor will supply patina and patina brush, polishing compound, sponges, steel wool, an assortment of wire for use in class. Some cabs, copper blanks, and extra soldering supplies will be available for purchase at very reasonable prices.
Class fee: $265 – In-class tools/supplies and take-home kit includes: Hakko 601 soldering iron, brass sponge for cleaning soldering iron tip, heavy duty stand (for soldering iron), 1-lb lead-free solder, copper foil, paste flux, flux brush, pre-tinned copper wire, black patina, finishing polish.
Est. material fee: $0-150 (depends on extras you might purchase to take home)
