COLD CONNECTIONS I
INSTRUCTOR: DOLORES OSBORNE-HENSLEY
This class for beginners will cover basic skills of working with base metals (copper, brass, titanium, and nickel), by cutting, sawing (metal sheers and hand-saw), filing (hand-files and dremel tools) while learning to connect two or more pieces of metal without heat. We will cover riveting (basic and telescoping), tab settings (metal, cabochons and/or fossils), metal-on-metal layering, stone setting with tabs, form-folding, and more. We will use the hand-held torch to flame color copper and titanium, prior to cold connecting them to other metals. We have several projects planned that will encompass numerous aspects of cold connections that you can use for more projects at home. Students will also have plenty of time to develop skills and create their own designs. Class fee includes all metal, wire, copper washers, steam-punk elements, cords, leather cords, findings and rivets needed to complete class projects, plus an accent stone, chains, and ear wires. In this class, students will produce creative jewelry pieces and learn the basics for a strong foundation to pursue other lapidary arts. The school has basic tool kits for student use, and I will have tools for sale if you are interested.
