FACETING I

INSTRUCTOR: LANCE ANDRUS

This class is designed for beginners, but the experienced cutter will enjoy the class as well.  Students will use my instruction manual and will cut a simple hexagon in clear quartz as their first stone.  Instruction will cover basic machine setup and operation, lap selection, stone selection, dopping and the cutting process.  Students will learn to read and understand the faceting diagram, and how to apply the instructions to the faceting machine.  Students will use the machines provided by the school but may bring their own machine if they choose to.  Students may bring their own rough, but nothing harder than 7 on the Mohs scale of hardness.  Students are strongly encouraged to bring an Opti Visor or similar head mounted magnification device.  The class fee includes rough for the first stone, a microfiber cloth, a cerium ultralap for polishing, an instruction manual with detailed instructions how to cut the first stone and four additional faceting diagrams.  Additional rough is available for purchase.

Class Fee: $50
