SILVER II
INSTRUCTOR: BARBARA FIELDS
This class will combine the different types of silver solder, and ways to use them effectively. We will be learning how to tube set small stones, incorporating the different methods of soldering to include: Chip or pallion soldering, Paste Soldering, Sweat Soldering, Pick Soldering. To obtain a better understanding of how and when the different types of solder are best used, as well as more experience using burs to cut seats for small cabochons and faceted stones. This class is not for beginners, as serious soldering skills will be needed. You must have had three or more Silver I classes within the past two years to qualify for this class. Charges for silver and stones will be dependent upon the student’s choice of materials. Natural Gemstones will be used whenever possible and if they are not too expensive. If the student wants to supply their own stones for tube setting, they must contact me to confirm whether the stones are suitable for tube setting and to make sure I have tubing on hand to fit your stones. We will be using the tube settings to make stacking rings, and to accent other pieces using faceted stones or cabochons. Good motor skills and vision are required since we will be working with small objects and hard to see processes. Opti Visors or other vision aids can be used if desired. We will complete other projects as time permits.
Class Fee: $150 which will include the Paste Solder we will be using.
Est Materials Fee: $100-300+(Charges for silver and stones will be dependent upon the student’s choice of materials. In addition to class fee)
