SILVER II: BOXES

INSTRUCTOR: BARBARA FIELDS

We will be making boxes in this class. These can be enhanced with tube set stones, cabochons and/or small silver figures or charms. If you have a particular figure in mind for your boxes, please contact me, so I can try to source them if you do not have them already. These boxes are generally meant as keepsakes. I send them out as Tooth Fairy Boxes, and they can be made to fit a special gift for someone. This class is not for beginners, as serious soldering skills will be needed. You must have had three or more Silver I classes within the past two years to qualify for this class. Charges for silver and stones will be dependent upon the student’s choice of materials. Natural Gemstones will be used whenever possible and if they are not too expensive. Good motor skills and vision are required since we will be working with small objects and hard to see processes. Opti Visors or other vision aids can be used if desired. We will complete other projects as time permits.

Class Fee: $150

Est Materials Fee: $150-300+ (In addition to class fee)

Prerequisite: 3 Silver I Classes & Experienced Soldering Skills

Fields, Barbara

I began my adventure in Silversmithing in 2005, in Nashville, TN. Thanks to Mid-Tennessee Gem & Mineral Society. They offer classes in stone cutting, cabochons, and Silver Smithing. I started with a Lapidary Class and quickly moved into the Silver Jewelry Class. After I advanced in skills, and the demand had increased, I was asked to be an instructor. I have taken Silver Fabrication with several instructors at William Holland through the years, and have dabbled in several other aspects in the Jewelry Arts, as well as other artistic pursuits. My classes are structured for the beginning student, and for building their skills to pursue their endeavors after the class has ended. I prefer keeping everyone on the same projects, so we can learn from each other’s experience, until they are confident enough to work independently on their own projects. Students typically make five or more finished pieces and can expect to spend $150 to $300 or more, depending on materials used in class or purchased to take home to continue their journey into the world of silversmithing.
