SILVER III: TOUCH OF GOLD

INSTRUCTOR: VICKIE PRILLAMAN

This class will show the students how a little bit of gold can go a long way and highly increase the value of their finished pieces. We will cover several different techniques used to apply gold sparingly. Keum-Boo uses 24kt gold applied to sterling silver or Argentium. Painting gold onto silver uses 14kt gold “painted” onto sterling silver. Overlay uses 14kt gold rolled thin and soldered to sterling silver. Fused filings use 18kt gold on Argentium silver. We will use fine silver, sterling silver and/or Argentium silver in this class. There will be projects designed specifically for each technique: rings, earrings, or pendants. Because of the price of gold, I will correspond with each student individually regarding the purchase of the gold required for each of the techniques and they are welcome to purchase the gold before the class. The class fee includes the handouts, consumables, use of the tools required for special techniques, and many of the essentials that are different and required for working with gold and Argentium silver. The 24kt gold and the fine silver needed for the Keum-Boo project are included in the class fee. If you have any questions, please call Vickie at 770-265-7879.

Class Fee: $280

Est Materials Fee: $175+ (depends on the price of silver, Argentium silver and gold. Plus, number of projects students complete).

Prerequisite: Must have at least 2 prior Silver II classes and MUST have good torch skills.
