POLYMER CLAY II: FACE CANES

INSTRUCTOR: BARBARA MCGUIRE

 

Face canes – the most challenging cane of all! However, a face cane is an investment you will have for years to come. This class helps to understand shape, proportion, and coloring to create a life-like image with personality. Individual component canes include eyes, nose, lips, brown and optional cheeks (as time permits). Class also includes instruction of how to adjust and embellish a finished cane for use in work. Students should have complete knowledge of a Skinner Blend and previous cane building and reduction experience.

Prerequisite: Polymer Clay I or equivalent – this is an advanced class.


  • Supply list for Face Canes

     

    1-1.5 lb Premo Doll clay – light, med or dark

    1 block (2 oz.) each Premo black, brown, white, (eye color blue or green), red

     

    Polymer clay tools

    • Polymer Clay Blades (1 stiff; 1 flexible)
    • Acrylic Roller with handle
    • Pasta Machine (school has pasta machines) – motors OK
    • Tile or Glass Work Surface (school will provide)
    • Deli Wrap or Plastic Wrap (for clay storage)
    • Designated Oven for Curing Clay (provided by the school)
    • Texture Scrubbie for Backings
    • Sculpting tools, bone folder, Needle Tool
McGuire, Barbara

Barbara McGuire is an award-winning author and artist known for her work in polymer clay. Her signature style is recognized in her colorful Mokume Gane art to wear and expressive caned faces. Barbara lives near Asheville, NC, and teaches locally, privately by appointment and online classes via Zoom.
