LAMPWORK II: MURRINI
INSTRUCTOR: GEORGIA VAN ZYLE
The focus of this intermediate class will be making murrini and using them in the beads while improving your skills in heat control, bead shaping and encasing. We will start with striped murrini and move to more complex floral murrini. A basic tool kit is provided, including didymium glasses but you should bring your own mandrels and favorite tools. An Optivisor or clip-on magnification may be helpful, but not necessary. Wearing an apron is a good idea as making murrini requires working with large gathers of molten glass. Students must wear didymium glasses, closed-toe shoes, and 100% cotton clothing. The lab fee includes all material needed for class projects except mandrels. Georgia may be reached at 843 986 6675 or gvanzyle@yahoo.com. You must have prior lampworking experience and be able to independently make a glass bead before taking this class.
