MIXED METALS: COLD CONNECTIONS WITH VINTAGE METALS

INSTRUCTOR: ARLENE LAZZARO

Ever wonder what to do with those old, silver-plated platters and trays your mother or grandmother had? Or the ones you run across at flea markets and thrift stores? Well then, this is the class for you! We will take those vintage silver platters, candy dishes, metal buttons, etc., and combine them with copper, brass, and nickel sheets to create new wearable art! We will use a rolling mill, polishing machines, jeweler saw, and patinas to up-cycle these metals, using rivets to connect.  The lab fee will include all consumables, all metals, wire, assorted beads, and rocks and mineral specimens to complete class projects. We will complete at least 5 projects! Most students completed several more!

Lazzaro, Arlene

Arlene earned a bachelor’s degree in interior design and art history and considers herself an artist and craftsman. Following her daughter's love of rocks, she soon was attending William Holland to learn to wrap her daughter’s cabochons.  She found her calling in metal work and became an instructor in several mediums at her local Gem & Mineral Society, The Great Bead Escape retreat and Wild Acres EFMlS. A longtime mentor and fine jeweler, Don Dietz, taught her techniques in creating jewelry from Black Coral found on the beaches of Florida and has incorporated other techniques she learned to create beautiful Jewelry from Black Coral.
