This course will immerse you in the world of Dante - the height of Middle Ages communal strife, the relationship between the individual and his fellow humans as well as with God. We will explore some of Dante's earlier works, Vita Nova, as well as Convivio, and then focus on the Commedia. One hour will be in lecture format and half an hour will be for students' discussion, presentation, as well as exercises on understanding vernacular and analyzing the text from all four levels of readings (literal, allegorical, moral and anagogical) proposed by Dante.
