Exploring Ceramic Surface Techniques

Workshop | Registration opens 12/2/2025 10:00 AM CST

From wet clay to bone dry clay to glaze ware, students will practice water etching, uses of underglaze and oxides, pastry bag/tips decorating, lusters, and more! There will be a combination of prepared pieces and clay slabs for students to work on and have fired during the weekend. Students will take home a completed porcelain water etched piece, several of their experimental pieces, and supplies to be able to continue at home. Please note that this is a technique workshop and not all pieces may be fired.

Kim Brook

Kim (Lawrence, KS) is a Ceramics artist with over 15 years of teaching visual arts to youth and adults. Her passion is water etching porcelain and incorporating unexpected tools and colors to enhance the clay’s surface. She recently completed a residency at ESSA where she shared her beautiful artwork and creativity with the community.
