Create a charming oval tote basket out of hand split white oak from trees that the instructor personally selects, cuts, and prepares by hand, using the tools his father made and used. Billy Owens, a second-generation basket maker will share all things concerning white oak basketry from how he selects his trees to how he prepares it all by hand. The Oval Tote has a 6β x 12β woven oak herringbone bottom, itβs approx. 8β excluding the oak handle and an oval top. Learn a valuable craft and leave with a piece of Ozark tradition.
Billy Owens
Billy (Jenkins, MO) is a second-generation White Oak basket maker from the Ozark mountains of Southern Missouri. He travels the country teaching and sharing this tradition since 1999. Billy was recently honored at the Smithsonian "Folk Life Festival" in Washington, DC. He displays baskets at the Missouri Botanical Gardens in St. Louis.
