The Advanced Training Institute builds on foundational concepts introduced in the Basic Training Institute, adding skills that will enable the educator to provide Educational Therapy beyond the introductory grades. It applies the same Orton-Gillingham Approach, targeting the specific needs of older students and adults. The Reading Center arranges the students working with trainees during the practicum portion of the course.
A certificate of successful completion will be presented to those who satisfactorily complete required course work and pass the examinations.
In-Person Training
This is an in-person training that meets at The Reading Center's flagship location in Rochester, MN. The 90-hour course is spread out over 3 weeks. The course will meet every weekday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with a break for lunch. Trainees will bring sack lunches, and should expect to do some coursework in the evenings after class. (How much coursework will be necessary to do depends on the trainee.)
Student Practicum
During the Reading Center's training, each trainee will take part in a Practicum with a student and an experienced instructor. All practicum students are secured or confirmed by The Reading Center.
Technology
Trainees will need a working computer with internet access, as well as a Google account in order to access online materials.
