We will explore the historical changes in the American male role with special attention to the impact of economic, political, social and cultural factors. We will focus upon the challenges and responses to the concepts of the self-made man, the superior sex, and the provider by the vicissitudes of the marketplace, industrialization, and the women’s movement.
Rachel Ranis
Rachel Ranis has sociology degrees from Brandeis and Yale universities. Her research on social welfare issues, aging and vocational education has taken her to Pakistan, Mexico, Columbia, Germany, and the United Kingdom. She taught at the University of Bridgeport, the University of Maryland, Howard University and is retired from Quinnipiac University.
