The Columbia Pike Documentary Project has chronicled the ethnically-diverse Columbia Pike corridor for two decades. The Pike is one of the most diverse communities in the nation, home to over 120 languages and cultures, and has been termed by scholars “The World in a Zip Code.”  The project’s multi-disciplinary work explores both the area’s physical and socio-cultural makeup in compelling photos and interviews with residents. The work is deeply focused on a wide range of immigrants and long-term residents from such diverse countries as Mongolia, Bolivia, Bangladesh, Palestine, Vietnam, Egypt (to name a few) as well as native-born Hispanic and African-American residents.  

The photographs and profiles have historical and artistic value. The work builds community, helps us better understand ourselves and our neighbors, and experience the beauty and humanity in our vibrant subcultures. As one of the interview subjects, Aseel Elborno, put it “you don’t have to be homogenous to be harmonious.” 

Lloyd Wolf, the founder and lead photographer on the Project, and one of our presenters, captures the project well: “The stories will touch your heart and the pictures will make your eyes dance.”    

Advance registration is not required, and this free event is open to all.
