ZZ0831 - Define, Identify and Debunk: Dealing with Misinformation in the Digital Age

Special Event | Registration is not required for this event

Monday, August 31, 2026, 3:00 PM - 4:30 PM

With so many sources of online news and content, how can we be sure we're getting information from credible sources? How do we know if we're being informed or misled? And with the rise in increasingly sophisticated AI-generated content and videos, how do we identify what is real from fabricated?

The News Literacy Project (NLP) is the nation's largest provider of news literacy resources, with tools and tips on how to find reliable information, spot misinformation, and identify standards-based journalism.

Join Dan Evon, NLP's Senior Manager of Educational Design, and Mary Kane, NLP's Senior Editor, to discuss the misinformation crisis and its consequences, particularly for our children and young adults. They also will offer practical strategies for finding fact-based information.

Dan oversees producing content for NLP's debunking site RumorGuard, including articles, classroom slide presentations, video guides and other educational materials. Before joining NLP in 2022, Dan worked as a reporter for Snopes.com, the internet's oldest fact-checking site.

Mary oversees copy from across the organization to ensure it meets editorial standards, including fact-checking and editing RumorGuard posts and email alerts. Before joining NLP in 2020, she was an award-winning financial reporter.

Advance registration is not required, and this free event is open to all.
