This is a course designed as a follow-up to the "Writing A Memoir" course. After getting the memoir writing started, participants are encouraged to “keep writing.” As they develop their stories, they may need a refresher on important lessons, such as working with the technical aspects of their manuscripts and the important lessons of storytelling, organizing and publishing. The classes are structured as 50 percent lecture and 50 percent practical workshop.

Supplemental Materials: Writing A Memoir, 2d ed, Marty Suydam. This is the same text used in the Writing A Memoir course.

  • This course will be offered virtually via Zoom.


    This course will be recorded, and registered participants will receive a link to access each recording within two business days after the session ends. The recordings will be available for viewing anytime until February 28, 2027. While the recordings are provided for convenience and to accommodate any scheduling conflicts, they are not intended to replace the benefits of attending in real time, where you can ask questions and participate in discussion
Marty Suydam

Marty Suydam is a retired Army Corps of Engineer officer, federal Senior Executive Service member, corporate executive and professor. He has written and published several other books on which he has based Encore Learning courses: Writing A Memoir, 2nd ed.; Walks With Charley: Sniffing Arlington Ridge History and Mystery, 3rd ed.; Walk Four Mile Run: A Chain of Parks, 2nd ed.; and Walks with The Rambler: A Scrapbook of Arlington, Alexandria, & Fairfax, Virginia From the Lens & Pen of The Rambler 1907-1927.
