2003 - Estate Planning Basics

In-Person Course | Registration opens 9/8/2026 10:00 AM EDT

The instructors will share their experience with estate planning and retirement living with seniors and their families. The course will cover:

  1. An Overview of Estate Planning: Taxes, laws and issues that surround estates and how the documents we use help us to prepare for incapacity and death.
  2. Trusts: What “trusts” are and how they serve us, both before and after death.
  3. Funding Your Living Trust: The process for transferring (“funding”) various types of assets into a Living Trust.
  4. Medical Decision Making and Advance Health Care Directives: Preparing for a time when we are unable to make our own medical decisions.

  • This course will be offered in-person at Fairlington Community Center.
Sarah Parks

Sarah Parks is an attorney who limits her practice to estate planning. Her firm is Custom Estate Planning, which she has been operating since 1995. She has a JD degree from the Antonin Scalia Law School at GMU and an LLM from the Georgetown University Law Center.

Dina Chatila Shaar

Dina Chatila Shaar is a Virginia-licensed estate planning attorney who brings practical experience and a client-centered approach to her work. She has a JD degree from the Antonin Scalia Law School at George Mason University (GMU) and has focused on creating tailored estate plans that address individual circumstances and priorities.
