Class Description: Interested in learning the ins and outs of fighting on stage? Students in Stage Combat will learn the fundamentals of performing fight choreography on stage using stage weaponry and their basic acting tools (voice, body and imagination.) Every student will explore how to use stage weapons safely through offensive and defensive techniques that are grounded in character objectives. This class is for students who would like to try stage combat for the first time as well as the students with some previous stage combat experience.
Program Type: In this process based program, students will: - Build acting, performance, & theater skills - Participate in a collaborative process - Gain confidence, empathy, & a sense of community - Practice communication, flexibility, focus, & perseverance - Take risks in a supportive environment & learn from mistakes.
Class Location Information: The program will take place at MYArts, 1055 East Mifflin Street, Madison. There is free street parking and also $2/hr parking at MYArts. There is a community space where families can wait while their student is in class.
First Day Information: There will be an optional, informal opportunity to learn more about the programs on Day 1.
# of Students in Class: 13-15 students. There is 1 professional teaching artist.
Experience Expectation: Previous theater experience is recommended, but beginners are welcome.
