Class Description: A tale of epic proportions about Odysseus’ quest to find home and the people he loves after years of journeying. In this devising program, students will use the story of Odysseus as a jumping off point to create their own play inspired by the classic tale.
Program Type: This two-week program is ideal for theater enthusiasts who want a more in depth experience focusing on a particular aspect of theater. Students will:
- Build acting, performance, & theater skills
- Participate in a collaborative theater-making process
- Gain confidence, empathy, & a sense of community
- Practice communication, flexibility, focus, & perseverance
- Take risks in a supportive environment & learn from mistakes
Location Information: The entire program will take place at Madison Youth Arts, 1055 East Mifflin Street. See Covid Procedures link below for Pick Up/Drop off procedures.
# of Students in Class: 10-15 students. There is 1 professional teaching artist and 1 Teaching Assistant Intern.
Experience Expectations: Previous acting experience is suggested for this program though not required.
Typical Daily Schedule:

10:00 – 10:30 Warm Ups & Challenges
10:30-11:30 Workshop (skill building, tools needed for devising)
11:30-12:30 Rehearsal/Devising
12:30-1 Lunch
1-1:30 Rehearsal/Games
1:30-2 Clean up, Acknowledgements
2 Dismissal
Final Performance: We will hold a final sharing on the last day of the program. More info to come two weeks prior to class.
