Class Description: This class combines storytelling and improvisation with an outdoor Challenge and Ropes Course! Using problem solving scenarios which must be “acted” out, students explore what it means to trust themselves, trust others, and collaborate in groups.
Program Type: This weekend class focuses on process. Students will explore characterization & ensemble building through experiential based learning & improvisation.
Location Information: The program will take place at the MSCR Kennedy Park Challenge Course, which is located adjacent to Kennedy Park on Madison’s Eastside. CTM families may NOT use the parking lot of Kennedy Elementary, not even for drop off/pick up quickly. Instead, families should pick up/drop off on Coach House Drive. Pick up/drop off will happen in the MSCR Welcome Center.
# of Students in Class: 10-15 students. There is 1 teaching artist, 1-2 MSCR challenge and ropes course staff, 1 Teaching Assistant Intern.
Experience Expectations: We welcome students of all experience and ability levels.
Typical Daily Schedule:
8:45 – 9:00 Check In
9:00 – 9:30 Morning Warm ups
9:30 – 10:30 Improvisation Practice; Challenge Initiative Games
10:30 – 10:45 Morning Snack – Nut free camp!
10:45 – 12:00 Low/High Ropes Challenge
12: 00 – 12:30 LUNCH
12:30 – 2:00 Creating Scenes/rehearsal
2:00 – 2:15 Afternoon Snack
2:15 – 2:45 Character creating activities
2:45-3pm Cool down activities and clean up
3pm Dismissal
Final Class Sharing: We will hold a final sharing on the last day of the program. More info to come two weeks prior to class.
