Class Description: Step into the world of 5 shows with 5 very different costuming styles. Learn the art of costume design and build costume pieces with a variety of techniques (without the use of a sewing machine). Present your designs in a showcase for family and friends!
Program Type: This one-week program is ideal for theater enthusiasts who want a more in depth experience focusing on a particular aspect of theater. Students will:
- Build theater skills through master classes & workshops
- Design & implement those designs through the course of the week
- Gain confidence, empathy, & a sense of community
- Practice communication, flexibility, focus, & perseverance
- Take risks in a supportive environment & learn from mistakes
Pick Up/Drop Off Information: Pick up & Drop off will be at the Henry Street entrance of Overture Center. Families will only need to park on the first day for a 15 minute orientation and the last day to see the final sharing.
# of Students in Class: 25-30 students. There are 2 professional teaching artists, 1 Teaching Assistant Intern and 1 High School Intern.
Experience Expectations: We welcome students of all experience and ability levels to register.
Typical Daily Schedule:
8:45 – 9:00 Check In
9:00 – 9:30 Morning Check In, Goal Setting, etc.
9:30 – 10:15 Ensemble building, Sharing Ideas, Getting to know the Group!
10:15 – 10:30 Snack – We are a nut free camp!
10:30 – 11:00 Introduction to the play of the day
11:00 – 12:00 Costume Workshop/Master Class
12:00 – 12:30 Lunch
12:30 –2:00 Sketching/Construction
2:00 – 2:15 Afternoon Snack
2:15 – 3:15 Share Designs, give feedback, tweak designs
3:15 – 3:30 Clean-up, Acknowledgements
3:30 Dismissal
Final Class Sharing: August 7, 3:00pm, Madison Opera. Family and friends are encouraged to attend!
