Class Description:Students will learn the basics of acting (body, voice, and imagination) as well as storytelling (story structure, setting, etc.) to create and perform an original short play based on the rich dramatic arc of the Hero’s Journey – found in stories from Star Wars to Inside Out. Theater games and exercises will lead students through the collaborative process.
Program Type: While this program culminates in a sharing, it is rooted in process. Students will:
- Build dramatic, social and collaborative skills
- Explore emotions and character driven connections in a creative play-based setting
- Participate in a collaborative theater-making process
- Use their creativity to build worlds, stories and interactions
- Gain confidence, empathy, & a sense of community
- Practice communication, flexibility, focus, & perseverance
- Take risks in a supportive environment & learn from mistakes
Pick Up/Drop Off Info: Pick up/Drop off at CI Therapies, Fitchburg: 2990 Cahill Main Suite 204. Parents are asked to stay on the first day for orientation and are invited on the last day to see the final sharing.
# of Students: 12 students. There is 1 professional theater teaching artist, 1 music therapist, 3+ occupational therapists and 3+ volunteers.
Experience Expectations: We welcome all students with special needs and/or disabilities and a sibling or friend to register.
