Class Description: Hilarity will ensue in this in-depth training program for improvisation, clowning, & comedy! Class culminates with an improv comedy showcase for family and friends on the last day of the program.
Program Type: This two-week program is ideal for theater enthusiasts who want a more in depth experience focusing on a particular aspect of theater. Students will:
- Build acting, performance, & theater skills
- Participate in a collaborative theater-making process
- Gain confidence, empathy, & a sense of community
- Practice communication, flexibility, focus, & perseverance
- Take risks in a supportive environment & learn from mistakes
Pick Up/Drop Off Information: Pick up/Drop off at Madison Opera (335 W Mifflin St). Families will only need to park on the first day for orientation and the last day to see the final sharing.
# of Students in Class: 25-30 students. There are 2 professional teaching artists, 2 Teaching Assistant Interns and 1 High School Intern.
Experience Expectations: Previous acting experience is suggested for this program.
Typical Daily Schedule:
9:45 – 10:00 Check In
10:00 – 10:30 Morning Warm Ups, Goal Setting, etc.
10:30 – 12 Comedy basics, rules, styles, Workshop
12:00 – 12:30 Lunch
12:30 – 12:45 Refocusing Activity/Games
12:45 – 2:30 Learn short form improv games, pantomime, improve history, build characters quickly, etc.
2:30 – 2:45 Afternoon Snack – we are a nut free camp!
2:45 – 3:45 Learn short form improv games, pantomime, improve history, build characters quickly, etc.
3:45 – 4:00 Clean-up, Acknowledgements
4:00 Dismissal
Final Showcase: August 2, 3:00pm, Playhouse Theater, Overture Center.
