This workshop will explore the non-toxic etching technique called solar plate. Students will use this simple, safe, and fast approach to etching and relief printing that does not use grounds, acids, or solvents. it is exposed with UV light and developed with ordinary tap water. Work on the plate directly with opaque materials in the form of non-water based pigments, or it may be used by exposing the plate through a transparent film with artwork on it. Instructor -- Patrick Flaherty

Flaherty received a MA in Printmaking from Ball State University in 2003. He is the Director of Exhibitions & Artist Services, Director of the Broad Ripple Art Fair and Head of the Printmaking Department at the Indianapolis Art Center. He regularly exhibits his artwork in local and regional shows.
