Students will be introduced to different types of stone (igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic) and will use direct carving methods with sensitivity to the nature of the stone. Students will learn the procedures of shaping, refining and finishing their stone. Students will receive introductions to pneumatic, electric and hand tools as they carve. Instructor -- Jason Bord

Jason Bord: M.F.A. in Sculpture, Herron School of Art and Design, 2011; B.F.A. in Sculpture, Ball State University, 2007. Jason has taught at Herron since 2010. Jason has worked as an assistant sculptor and primary fork lift operator at the Limestone Symposium from 2008-2010 and apprenticed under internationally known Sculptor, Dale Enochs from 2007-present. He has exhibited his work extensively throughout Indiana, and has completed multiple large scale commissioned pieces, including the 8.6 acre "Remembrance and Martyrs (For Beverly and Birddog)" located at I-70 and Harding St. Exit. Jason Bord also works as the art consultant at United Vision Records. This community based collective works towards supporting the music and arts in Indianapolis all while continuing to support local business throughout Indiana.   • Additional materials and tools will be between $100-$150.
  • Beginner tool sets can be priced at www.completesculptor.com. The instructor will discuss what and where to purchase additional materials during the first class meeting.
